Baharat, also known as Lebanese Seven Spice or Advieh, has become one of the many ‘go-to’ spice blends along with Ras el Hanout and Chermoula. Herbie, always up to date or ahead with spice trends, was asked to contribute this article to Australian Gourmet Traveller in 1999. Yes, 24 years ago! LOW FODMAP & PALEO – QUINOA KEDGEREE
|Even though small amounts of garlic and onion can be permitted on a low fodmap diet, use the check box on our product page to search for our spice blends that don’t.
Kedgeree is a recipe that evolved from an Indian lentil dish called Khichri, to an English breakfast favourite. We have come up with this healthy spin on the dish using quinoa instead of rice, and find it just as delicious! The mild curry flavours go so well with the smokey fish and hard-boiled eggs.
As nice as it is hot, this is actually just as enjoyable as more of a chilled salad, making it perfect for lunchboxes and picnics.

KETO – NATIVE SPICED BEEF, MUSHROOM & HALOUMI SKEWERS
|Spice blends and rubs are very handy on the Keto diet – simply dust meat in spices and enjoy!
The combination of steak, haloumi and mushrooms with our Bush Tucker Rub has so much flavour a few green leaves are all you need on the side. Try using any of our blends or rubs for an equally delicious result.

SALT FREE – ZALT & PEPPER SQUID
The thought of being salt-free can be quite underwhelming, as it’s seen as the ultimate addition to rounding out the taste of just about everything.
Dozens of our blends DON’T contain salt (simply use the search function on shop page), however we wanted a blend that gave the same type of ‘buzz’ as salt. Herbie developed Zalt for this purpose, with sweet paprika, amchur, onion powder, bay leaves and ginger for a delicious salt-free sprinkle. Of course, we had to road test it by making salt and pepper squid, which tastes fantastic if we do say so ourselves!

GLUTEN FREE – RED VELVET CUPCAKES
|Beetroot Powder is an excellent source of natural colouring. The actual flavour is very mild so it be used in cakes or curries. Kids love red velvet cakes, but can go a bit wild on E numbers! Try these next time, and add some beetroot powder to your butter chicken for a deep, rich, red colour.
If you’re gluten free, look no further than our Christmas Pavlova with Spiced Syrup this festive season, which has become our favourite pud on Christmas Day.
