Slow Food Taste Workshop: Spices with Liz and Ian “Herbie” Hemphill

August 13, 2016 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

Slow Food Taste Workshop – Spices with Liz and Ian “Herbie” Hemphill:

This is the comprehensive introduction to spices that almost needs no introduction! In this two-hour session Herbie will navigate through the exotic waters of the history of the spice trade, while Liz prepares some tasty morsels. You will learn about many different spices, their origins, and how they are processed and traded. Hear, from their first-hand experiences, how the production of spices is very different to that of many mainstream broad-acre mono-culture crops. Most importantly, Herbie will demystify the flavours of many spices, including the most popular Australian native varieties, so you will feel comfortable using them in everyday cooking.

Lunch following the talk will be a selection of curries made with some of the Herbie’s Spices herb and spice blends. Please free free to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with your lunch.

Please note that the Pink Cook’s kitchens are not kosher, nut, gluten or shellfish free.

Tickets are non refundable, however you can send a friend in your place if you are unable to make it.
